Does massaging the head make sense?

Uśmiechnięta kobieta masuje tył swojej głowy dłońmi. Czy masowanie głowy ma sens? Jakie są korzyści?

Head massage brings many benefits. It affects both visual and health aspects. Scalp massage primarily improves tissue blood flow, and consequently, their nourishment. As a result, it reduces muscle tension, which partly influences the appearance of our face.

What are the main benefits of head massage?

Benefits of head massage include:

  • reduction of muscle tension,
  • decrease in tension headaches,
  • improvement in facial appearance,
  • stimulation of hair growth,
  • reduction of swelling,
  • stress reduction (stimulates the production of happiness hormones).

What is the galea aponeurotica and how to massage it?

Many publications mention massaging the galea aponeurotica. So what is the galea aponeurotica? Simply put, it is the connection of muscles located on the skull vault. This is where a complex of four muscles forms the epicranial muscle. If you place your hand on the top of your head, that’s exactly where it is.

It is best to perform the galea massage with both hands simultaneously from both sides. It is important to press the fingers firmly against the skin (compress the tissues). This prevents sliding shallowly over the skin, which may not bring the expected effects. The next step is to make circular movements. The treatment should last from 5 to 10 minutes.

How does head massage affect the appearance of the face?

Massage of the scalp/galea aponeurotica relaxes the muscles. It improves oxygenation of the tissues and supports their blood flow. Additionally, it benefits the lymphatic system by helping reduce swelling.

Regular massage of this area can help smooth the forehead, slightly lift the eyebrows, and make the eyes look less tired – all because relaxed muscles stop “pulling” the skin downward.

Does scalp massage show immediate effects?

Already after the first massage, you may feel relief, especially if you struggle with strong tension or stress. To see real, long-lasting effects, regularity is necessary.

The best solution is to add massage to your daily routine. You can combine it, for example, with your evening care. I believe the best time to incorporate head massage into your life is when washing your hair. You can easily combine the pleasant with the useful. Just add 5-10 minutes of massage while applying shampoo to take extra care of yourself.
